How to use the filters

Season of interest includes leaves, stems and seed heads as well as flowers: read the role in each profile. Maximum spread checks the upper end of the sourced range; unknown spreads are excluded when a limit is selected. Space must also allow access and neighbouring growth. A smaller named cultivar needs its own size check.

“Drier” describes tolerance, generally after establishment; it does not mean no watering. “Moist” means water is available without assuming permanent saturation. A wet-soil candidate still needs its individual guidance checked.

Annual crops and flowers remain in the results when a zone is chosen: their useful growing season depends on local warmth, frost and timing, not winter survival. Perennials without a verified USDA range are excluded when a zone filter is selected; source-reported temperature thresholds remain in their profiles. For perennial plants, USDA zones are source-reported cold-hardiness ranges, rounded to whole zones for this shortlist. Annual crop and flower records use growing ranges, not winter survival; their profiles state that distinction. They are not a measure of heat, rainfall, wind, drainage or container-root protection. Check the precise subzone and cultivar in the linked source. The seasonal labels describe temperate growing cycles, not fixed months worldwide.

Native origin is geographical, not a worldwide badge. Toxicity, edibility and invasive status are explicitly not inferred from a plant's presence here. Check your location and exact botanical name before purchase.
